Under what circumstances would I have to repay the Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle Grant?

The sole purpose of the grant is to increase the number of Wheelchair Accessible Taxis on the road in Ireland. Any grants which are issued are done so on the basis that vehicles are constantly in service for a minimum of 36 months.

  -  If a wheelchair accessible taxi service is not being delivered in accordance with the licensing conditions or if the vehicle licence falls inactive at any point during three years immediately after payment of the grant, the National Transport Authority will request a pay-back of the grant.

  -  As per the SPSV Regulations, booking records are required by the Authority to monitor the impact of the scheme. If these records are not provided within ten working days of a request from the Authority, this would leave the operator in breach of the grant terms.

  -  If the operator changes the vehicle in line with a fleet renewal before the completion of the 36 months or the driver reverts from a wheelchair accessible licence holder back to a standard taxi licence, the NTA will request a pay back of the grant.

The National Transport Authority maintain the right to work with any grant recipients to ensure that they are carrying out their role in line with the expectancy of the purpose of the grant. If a licensee is is found to be in breach of this, they may be asked to address any deficiencies in the service they are providing or repay the grant.
