The McElmeel Story

In 1950 Thomas McElmeel Father to Malachy and Grandfather to current Managing Director Conor, opened a small garage aimed simply at repairing cars and tractors. Little did he know that when a neighbour came to him asking for help driving, because he had insufficient power in his legs to use the Pedals ,that he would have began a journey in Car adaptations.

70 years ago there were no such thing as Companies offering Car adaptations on the market in fact this was long before the days of the infamous three wheeled Invacar, so it didn’t take long for word to get around that Thomas was a man with a plan! Fast forward 70 years and McElmeel Mobility Services are now one of the largest wheelchair accessible vehicle providers in the UK and Ireland and the No 1 Car adaption specialists in Ireland.

As the longest established company supplying vehicles for disabled drivers and passengers in the UK and Ireland, we are passionate about our customers and have built our reputation on customer service and innovation. We have won multiple awards over the last decade and we continue to push ourselves to improve on every level.

Managing Director Conor McElmeel “I am very proud to be able to manage the business my Grandfather started and to have played my part in the way it has grown. We employ around 50 people and it is important that we continue to play our part in our community. I have been around this business since I was a child and I have become obsessive about doing the right thing for our customers and our staff and I am committed to seeing this continue. We have a great team of people who work very hard and I have full faith that the years to come will see us get even better.”

2020 promises to be a very busy time at McElmeel Mobility Services, We attending over a dozen shows all over the UK and Ireland. Make sure to keep an eye out so you don’t miss out on any of our 70th Birthday celebrations near you at some point throughout the year.

In 1948 the Ice-blue Invacar was born. This three wheel, fibreglass, one seater phenomenon changed the lives of thousands of disabled people in the UK, bringing an independence beyond their dreams.
Fast forward through an enormously progressive seven decades and the vehicles of today are nothing short of engineering mastery. With lowered floors and wheelchair accessibility for passengers and drivers, big enough to carry large families, with comfort, safety and reliability as standard and adaptations available that allow for the virtually unimaginable.
