Job Vacancy - Research and Development Engineer

The Role:

In order to support business growth, McElmeel Mobility Services is looking for a Research and Development Engineer to support our fast paced, dynamic engineering team.  The R&D Engineer needs to be a key contributor to the engineering team; supporting new product development and drive continuous improvement to existing designs.  


Responsibilities

The R&D Engineer will:

  • Work closely with the wider team in relation to new product development including management, marketing and production,
  • Work closely with Engineering team to design and document new conversions, develop new processes, update production build manuals, and carry out fault finding exercises,
  • Liaise with R&D team in the creation/modification of parts, technical drawings, and Bill of Materials,
  • Implementation of new technologies, manufacturing processes and materials,
  • Sourcing and liaising with suppliers of purchased components,
  • Follow engineering change control procedure where applicable,
  • Record and analyse Time and Motion studies to drive improvements in production times, 
  • Create and update all relevant documents for COCs/Certification/Testing,
  • Schedule and visit test houses to perform component/vehicle crash test campaigns,
  • Create and manage multiple design projects within set timeframe,
  • Be responsible for the correct use of personal protective equipment as per the company policy.



The Ideal Candidate:

  • Degree educated or equivalent in Engineering,
  • 3+ years experience in a manufacturing industry related role,
  • Previous experience implementing change control within a production environment,
  • Experience in solid/surface modelling using Solidworks or similar,
  • Working knowledge of steelwork is an advantage,
  • Full Driving Licence,
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (inc Word and Excel), Office 365.
