Based three miles outside the City of Armagh, we supply converted and adapted vehicles across Ireland and the UK.  Established in 1950 and the oldest converter in our industry, McElmeel Mobility is a third generation Family run business, built upon our core values of innovation and excellent customer service.


The Role:

The Design Engineer will support the R&D Team to continually update and improve existing Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles in areas such as product revisions and subsequent Type Approvals.

The successful candidate will develop their knowledge of our industry to become a key contributor to new product development with tasks including the design and drawing up of components and creation of build manuals and other supporting documents.


Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with R&D Manager and Engineering team in relation to new product development,
  • Work closely with Engineering team to document new conversion processes and create and update build manuals,
  • Work closely with Engineering team to design/edit parts and complete engineer drawings,
  • Create and update bill of materials,
  • Maintain and update Engineering Change Log when applicable,
  • Time and Motion studies,
  • Create and update stage 2 certificate of conformity (COC) for all vehicle conversions accordingly and liaise with Motability Administrators to advise of any changes,
  • Attend overseas testing as required by the business, updating production and management of new changes to type approval and PAS requirements,
  • Ensure the production team are operating to the latest type approval number which will be updated on all VIN stickers,
  • Contribute to the overall performance of the R&D Team.


The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate should have:
  • Degree educated or equivalent in Engineering,
  • 3+ years experience in a manufacturing industry related role,
  • Experience in SolidWorks and AutoCAD,
  • Working knowledge of steelwork is an advantage,
  • Full Driving Licence,
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (including word and excel), Office 365.

This is a full-time, permanent position.
