Congratulations to the Williams family on taking delivery of their stunning new Ford Tourneo Custom Family Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle in Somerset.
When Dad first got in touch with us, he explained that K’s needs had evolved and as such, so had the family’s. They had got demonstrations in other Ford Custom WAVs, but they hadn't managed to find a solution that addressed the family's needs. Having been supported by Erin to get a better understanding of a typical week in the Williams family life, she was able to arrange for Terry to come out and do a WAV home demonstration in beautiful south-west England.
Not all WAV’s are equal and the first thing that struck Dad about the McElmeel Ford Family Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle was the low angled ramp. This was very important as it make it easier for the various family members to help bring K into the centre of the vehicle. Between the low angle and the marine grade grip minimising the risk of the wheelchair slipping – Dad felt this was very important in keeping an energetic K feel safe, as well as Mum and Dad.
The true inclusive position in row 2 was also very important for the family as it brought K alongside his siblings, however the flexibility meant that there were options for when the days were a little bit harder. A unique aspect of the McElmeel conversion is that we retain the original seats and runners and this allowed the Williams family the option to put the seats into conference style to support them when they had different needs for different trips.
As well as the flat carpeted floor, another key stand out of the McElmeel wheelchair accessible vehicles is the ability to bring 2 row three tip and fold seats into position when the wheelchair is in place. This meant the whole family could travel together.
The Ford Custom offers a smooth driving experience, advanced safety technology, and excellent reliability and as such it is a popular base vehicle for a WAV – but each WAV’s convertor approaches things differently.
