New Motability Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (Wavs)


The Motability WAV Scheme offers you a brand new car with a 5 year lease and 100,00 mileage allowance if you receive any of the following list;

  • Higher rate Mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance.
  • Enhanced Rate Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment,
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment, or,
  • The War Pensioners Mobility Supplement


and you have 12 months remaining on your award. An Advanced Payment will be required. This gives you a vehicle that comes with fully comprehensive insurance, free tyre replacement when required, free roadside assistance cover and free servicing.

An assessment and demonstration will be carried out by one of our Mobility specialists to help determine which vehicle will be most suitable. Nearly New Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs)




As well as New Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles, McElmeel Mobility also supply Nearly New WAVs on the Motability Scheme. These WAVs are quality checked and are less than three years old. The lease term of a Nearly New WAV is three years and the mileage allowance is 60,000 miles over the three-year lease. An assessment and demonstration will be carried out by one of Mobility specialists to help determine vehicle suitability.


These following points may help you decide if a Nearly New WAV is right for you;

  • The lease term is shorter, three years compared to the five years lease term of a New WAV.
  • A lower Advance Payment (AP) compared to that of a new WAV, this will be determined by the age of the vehicle but often these APs are half or less than that of a similar New WAV.
  • It may be possible to get a suitable vehicle that is not available as a New WAV on the Motability Scheme.
  • Depending on stock availability − a shorter delivery time is often the case compared to that of a new vehicle order, but, it is also worth considering that availability can be limited, especially for quite specific requirements and if demand for a certain vehicle is high.
  • You will get the same worry-free lease package as that of a New vehicle.
  • A degree of wear that is usually consistent with the vehicles age should be expected.
  • Not all new WAVs on the Motability Scheme are available as Nearly New.
